With proximity to major cities like Tyler (35 miles) and the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex (72 miles), Athens is ideally situated for business growth. ECONOMIC GROWTH INCENTIVES

The Athens Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) offers a variety of economic growth incentives to foster development and support local businesses. Key programs include the AEDC Startup Grant, designed to encourage new businesses in brick-and-mortar locations, and the Business Assistance Grant, which provides matching funds for property improvements.  Chapter 380 Economic Development Agreements enable the city to offer loans and grants for commercial and residential projects.

Other incentives include a Freeport Tax Exemption for goods held in the state for a short period, property tax rebates, and access to Small Business Administration loans. The expansion of Athens’ Foreign Trade Zone allows businesses to defer duties on goods traded internationally, further enhancing the city’s appeal as a business destination.
